What Are Even and Odd Numbers?

Tips for Teaching Even and Odd
- Use pairing. Give students a group of objects and have them try to make pairs. If every object has a partner, the number is even. If one is left over, the number is odd. This concrete experience makes the abstract concept tangible.
- Teach the ones-digit shortcut. Once students understand the concept, teach them to look at only the last digit. This makes identifying even and odd numbers fast and automatic, even for very large numbers.
